Hello friends,

Welcome again to Superfood Evolution! A big thank you to all my Superfoods-for-Superhealth site visitors for your attention and support! Here we go with my monthly newsletter #11. Many of you expressed great interest in learning more about superfoods, superhealth and achieving optimal states of aliveness! So, here it is by popular demand! It is my intent to uplift and empower your true health potential to create the best life ever for you and your family.

"You are what you eat" is the first rule of thumb here, the rest just falls into place!

Regaining Immune Health

In today's fast paced world you have to be on your toes as far as keeping your immune system strong and healthy. Increased amounts of pollution, daily stress factors, environmental toxins and occasional epidemics, like the swine flu, are common occurrences in modern society. These issues can have potential effects on the body when it's "shield" is weak. Thus, building a healthy immune system is of utmost importance. This can be achieved by taking the necessary steps to ensure immune strength and provide the kind of protection needed.

For many of us, however, immune health is far from a reality with everything from minor sickness like colds, flus, and candida to more progressed versions of lymphomas and cancers. It's a matter of choice really, for it is all under our own power and control. The joyous desire to improve, create and integrate preventive actions through dietary and lifestyle changes must be present for superior immune health to thrive.

Dietary Tips for Immune System Health:

  • reducing sugar intake
  • eating more raw alkaline foods daily
  • slowly eliminate need for caffinated substances
  • cleanse the body with green juices
  • use seaweeds for thyroid immune support
  • increase antioxidant rich superfoods
  • eat fermented foods, like sauerkraut
  • take medicinal mushroom adaptogens
  • consume more sprouts and chlorophyll rich plant foods

Regaining immune health is a process. One of the first steps often involves cleansing the body and re-balancing the inner ecology. This can be initiated by attention to these foods that promote immune well being for a long and happy life.

Top 5 Immune System Supplements

Today, many of us have been exposed, over our lifetime, to environmental conditions, stress, caffeinated substances and foods that have compromised and weakened our immune functions. If you are in need of an immune system rebooting, these 5 supplements would be the first place to start. They will provide the beginning steps to achieving balance in this area, along with necessary dietary and lifestyle changes.

1) Host Defense - My Community Supplement - A specific blend of 17 different medicinal mushroom species that work to provide for natural immune building properties. This product was created by Paul Stamets and his company "Fungi Perfecti", a trusted name in mycellium research and study.

4) Zeolite - We mention zeolite on our super supplements page as a powerful way to rid the body of toxins, either when taken with meals or during a juice fast.

ZeoForce Powder

5) Fungal Defense - One of the first steps to immune system health is ridding the body of any parasites or fungal issues. Many of these critters live in the gut and spread throughout the body over time, often showing up in skin conditions, like rashes or whitish colored skin spots. This Garden of Life product is a powerful blend of herbs and extracts, like olive leaf and oregano oil, that kill these organisms where they grow.

Harvesting Wild Rose Hips

Growing in meadows, fields, and forests, wild rose hips can often be found in fall and winter months at various elevations and climates around the world. They are one of the richest sources of Vit C, which gives reason for there popularity in herbal teas.

Wild rose hips also contain Vit A and Vit B, essential fatty acids and antioxidant flavonoids that offer supreme nutrition for the immune system. They are best when fully ripe and red. Often, they will have a pasty texture that has a sweet/sour taste.

When I come across several bushes of wild rose hips I love to eat them by the handful. You will get a mouthful of rose hip seeds at the end of your chewing experience, I just spit them out on the ground to help spread more wild roses! You can dry and powder the whole rose hip to use in various recipes and drinks.

Besides being great for you and your immune health, I love the idea of eating the "fruit" of wild rose blossoms!

DVD of the Month:

Let's Grow Mushrooms!

Let's Grow Mushrooms! by Marc R Keith

This 2 set DVD is a great adjunct to any edible mushroom growing books you may have. It is a perfect for beginning growers, showing you how to grow your own edible mushrooms at home. Many of the medicinal mushrooms can also be grown this way, as well as some of the more traditional varieties, like Shiitake and Oyster mushrooms.

The techniques are straight forward and easy to follow using a few basic materials to get you started. The videos are very detailed with step by step instructions. If you are a "visual learner", it is always helpful to actually be able to "see" exactly how a the process is performed.

Marc introduces techniques using brown rice as both a spawn and substrate. He later expands into growing on straw, manure, sawdust and woodchips. More advanced techniques are covered in Disc 2. He presents the information in a clear and concise manner, with graphics, music and photos of high quality.
