Onion Bread Recipe, The Best Raw Onion Bread Ever!
Our raw onion bread recipe is a great substitute for baked bread when you are wanting something a bit more nutritious, lower in calories and gluten free.
It is one of our most popular recipes, mostly because it only contains a few ingredients, well, three main ones; chia seeds, pumpkin seed and you guessed it... onion!
As a typical American, I was raised on bread and had it at practically every meal. It was a gradual transition to stop eating it completely many years ago. Basically, it was a step by step process, moving from healthier versions of commercial breads to corn tortillas, then finally letting it go altogether.
But now, I have raw breads, like onion bread or sprouted grain bread, anytime I get that "must have" craving.
So, for those of you who want to quit the, I call it, "dead bread" cravings, here you go. This recipe is made with raw
good fats
instead of hydrogenated or baked oils that are found in most bread products.
Onion bread is not something I would eat on a regular basis, everyday, all day long or anything. It is made out of seeds and onions, making it too acidic and dense for the body if you eat too much of it.
It does have potent energy in it, however, being a raw food. Chia and pumpkin seeds are the magic superfood ingredients in this bread recipe. The chia seeds are great for digestion and moving the bowels for colon health. Pumpkin seeds are loading with zinc and known for their benefits to the prostate. The onions simply give it lots of flavor!
Score into 9 bread slices (18 total) after you flip them onto a mesh screen. (about 4-5 hours)
Dehydrate for another 12 hours or until dry and firm.

Just in case you were wondering, this bread is soft and easy to chew, not like a raw cracker. It makes a great raw sandwich bread. Its delicious with our tempeh reuben sandwich.
