A Protein Bar Recipe,
For One Of The Best Protein Bars Ever!

Protein Bar Recipe 16

A homemade protein bar recipe is a great way to control what ingredients go into your bar.

Sometimes, it is convenient to buy commercial brands, but really, the best protein bar is the one you make yourself.

The reason for this is simple. You get to choose what to put in it, to make it, not only tasty, but a nutritionally dense protein rich food that can provide fuel for hours.

Protein bar sales in stores have hit an all time high these days. People are on the go and want something fast and easy that can provide a quick meal. The energy bars out there, albeit "fast and easy", offer little as far as "real nutrition."

Protein Bar Recipe 7 Even the healthier, raw vegan versions, though much better, are usually way overpriced for what you actually get. Here, we like to make our own raw vegan recipes!!

The best protein bars are made fresh, using organic superfoods and natural sweeteners. Because they are homemade, you get to adjust the recipe according to your own personal tastes and health goals.

Some people have strict needs for low glycemic sweeteners, or just use stevia, while others may like certain kinds of nuts and seeds.

This is my favorite raw protein bar mix that I have put to the test many times. They are perfect for anyone starting a raw food diet plan because you can make a big batch of bars for the work week. This way you have them ready when you head out the door. They give you real, raw food energy from some of the best top superfoods available.

Superfood Protein Bar Recipe

Grind up the following into a fine powder in a high speed blender:

  • 1 cup pumpkin seeds
  • 1 cup hemp seeds
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • 1/4 cup chia seed
  • 2T poppy seeds
  • 2T bee pollen
  • 1 cup goji berries
  • The chia seed, poppy seed, and bee pollen can be combined together (dry) in a high speed blender. All other ingredients I process separately. Blend the goji berries last because they make your blender a bit sticky.

Mix the above in a bowl and add the following: Protein Bar Recipe 11

  • 1/4C melted coconut oil
  • 3T raw honey
  • 2t stevia powder
  • 1T spirulina
  • 2T yacon powder
  • 1/4C maca powder
  • 3T cacao powder
  • spring water

Add enough water to your mix to get a dough-like consistency.

How to Form:

On a piece of wax paper form your dough; make a shaped round or square log. (Kinda like our cinnamon roll recipe). From here you simply slice the thickness you want. Wrap each individually in wax paper, so you have easy access. Place in the fridge for several hours.

I usually add other ingredients to my protein bar recipe, like medicinal mushrooms, astragalus (powder or extract) and other algae's, depending on my mood at the time. The goji berries make this recipe sweeter, so just use a little raw honey. Its up to you though, you can add more if you like.

(Also, sometimes I replace the cacao powder with carob powder using the same proportions.)

So, when making your raw protein bar recipe you can add and make adjustments as desired. The key is to make sure you have a dough like consistency that will set over a few hours time. They will last up to a week or more in your refrigerator.

The two ingredients that are important for proper texture are:

1) The chia seed - will absorb the moisture in the bar and give it a cake like texture.

2) The coconut oil - when cooled to a certain temp, will provide a chewy texture.

The combination makes the best protein bar consistency.

As we mention in our Superfood Evolution Ezine issue #4, protein bars can be a great way to eat healthy when traveling by car, foot, bus or plane. Also see our Hemp protein bar recipe in this issue #4.
